What do you want?

So often, we know what we want, but we don’t know how to get it.  We work and work, and then work some more, but we never have a breakthrough.

I was trying to explain this to someone yesterday, and it can be a foreign concept if you’ve never experienced it or if you have never believed in the art of manifestation.

As we see people go through their days, they’re sometimes chasing their tails.  They’re running around – backtracking – because they were too distracted to remember everything before they left the house.  I have days like this, especially when things are consuming my mind and I lack focus.  It’s normal – from time to time – but for some, it becomes a way-of-life.

When we try so hard … and I mean overthink our lives, our goals, our job, our friendships, our marriages, etc., we actually repel from us the things we desire the most.  Sounds crazy, I know.

What we need to do is be STILL.  We need to learn the art of being QUIET.  Learn to set the intentions for our lives that will manifest our deepest desires.  Learn to get super clear on who we are and what we stand for.

I had an individual working at the car wash yesterday tell me he was going to end up in trouble because he wasn’t wearing his name tag.  Apparently, the magnet was lost.  He told me he was having a really bad day, and he thanked me for being kind.  You have to wonder how bad a day someone is having to notice you’re just being polite and appreciative towards their efforts.

Later, after I got done with my lunch, I stopped by the store and picked up a package of magnets and dropped them by.  I passed them on to a different employee with the message, “God bless”.  My hope is that this individual was able to feel for a minute that life is OK.

Our goal is to reflect the character of God.

Does it really matter if you go to church every week, what church you go to, whether you read a bible, meditate and do yoga?  I don’t believe so.  Reflecting the character of God is simply choosing each day to be faithful, giving, forgiving, fair, humble, kind and all the other things that embody him.  It’s choosing to be the light and making a conscious effort to make a difference in the world around you.

Sometimes you’ll be called to do small, easy things, like pay for a Starbucks customer behind you.  Other times, you’ll be called to stretch – either stretch your budget, your time constraints or your ego.  You will have the ability to bless someone in a way that’s going to inconvenience you or hit your pocketbook.  When you feel the tug … you need to be obedient.  Trust me when I say you’ll receive back that which you gave and so much more.  And when you’re not “looking” to receive back anything, the blessings are even greater.  Exactly one hour after I bought the magnets and dropped them off, a friend reached out to me and invited me to bring my jewelry to an event with 30 women on Sunday.  All afternoon I was talking about needing to coordinate my November, and my November was actually coordinating itself.

You get what you ARE, not what you WANT.

Sometimes it’s laying down your pride to admit you were wrong.  Other times it’s forgiving someone for betraying or hurting you.  When you stop to think of the hurt they must feel to have projected it onto you – you can find the compassion to forgive.  It’s a choice.

Maybe it’s standing up for someone or something that is worthy of your attention and helping out those who can’t help themselves.

Doors will open for you every day.  Some will be a slight crack.  Others will squeak so loudly, you’ll be unable to ignore them.  Whenever you see the crack in the door, walk through it.  So many times, we will want to just gently close the door to avoid discomfort, succumb to our lack of desire to help, or give in to our fear that others will see our actions as self-driven.  Who cares?

Err on the side of “Doing you and doing good“.  If you’re coming from a place of integrity, grace and love, nothing else matters.

“Be brave, be kind, be bold, be fierce, be YOU”
